Circulation of Materials

Students at Heron Heights are currently scheduled into the media center as a special for 30 minutes every day. That means that I will be teaching research skills while integrated technology into the curriculum and reading and discussing literature (both fiction and Informational text) with every student once a week. Students are always welcome to come in at anytime to check out books except 11:20-11:50 which time I am closed for lunch. I keep open access to the media center so that students can check out books at the time of need. The Media Center is open every morning at 7:30 A.M to 7:50 A.M so that students can drop off books and check out before they go to class.

The number of books students are allowed to checkout are as follows:

  • Kindergarten - 2 books
  • 1st grade - 3rd grade 2 books
  • 4th and 5th grades - 3 books
  • If students are working on special projects, they may check out up to 4 books.

We also have "playaways" that are very similar in looks to an ipod. These are similar to books on tape. Students are only allowed to check out "1" at a time and can be checked out by students in 1st through 5th grades. Please note that these items are costly and if lost or damaged they will need to be paid for and replaced. If you prefer not to have your child check them out, please call or email Mrs. Katz to let her know or tell your child you do not want them to check these items out.

Books and playaways can be checked out for up to two weeks. If they finish using the items before the two week period, they are welcome to return the items early and check out new items. Reference books can be checked out for one day. If the materials are not returned by their due date, a notice is given to the student reminding them to return the items.
